Michael E. Gallery, PhD, CAE

 

Dr. Gallery combines his nearly 24 years of experience as an association executive with his academic training in human performance technology to bring clients expertise in strategic planning, team building, program evaluation, leadership training, staff and volunteer performance development, and group facilitation.

 

During his long career with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP),  Michael held a variety of positions, including 14 years as COO. He introduced numerous innovations at the College, including the development of a data-driven strategic planning process, a staff bonus incentive plan, performance based budgeting, and a total redesign of College communications.

 

Michael has also had a long history of leadership in the association management profession. During his career, he:

 

  • Authored more than 40 books, magazine, and journal articles
  • Served on three different journal editorial boards
  • Served on several boards of directors including the board of the Center for Association Leadership.
  • Served on the CAE Commission and is a past chair
  • Presented at over 50 national and international meetings
  • Selected as an ASAE Fellow in 1999
  • Awarded the Association Executive Excellence Award by the Texas Society of Association Executives
  • Awarded honorary membership in ACEP --the highest award given to a non-physician.

 

Michael recently served as the chair of the Center for Association Leadership's Measures of Success Project. This landmark research effort in association management applied the work of Jim Collin's Good to Great to association management. By comparing good associations to visionary associations the measures task force identified 7 factors uniquely shared by visionary associations. The results of the study are published  in ASAE and The Centers best seller: 7 Measures of Success: What Remarkable Associations Do That Others Don't. Jim Collins wrote the forward to the book.

 

Michael has worked with a variety of clients including associations, hospitals, school districts, and professional corporations.
